Vikings back to practice

After a day off, the Minnesota Vikings resumed practice Monday morning, with the daily walk-through moved into Myers Fieldhouse because of light rain.

The Vikings are only in town for three days this week, ledaving Thursday for Friday's preseason opener against Houston at Metrodome.

Coach Leslie Frazier said that some of the veterans won't play Friday, and he wasn't sure about the status of linebacker Desmond Bishop, safety Mistral Raymond and cornerbacks Josh Robinson and Xavier Rhodes, who have missed time with leg injuries.

Frazier said the team won't do anything different this week, continuing with one padded practice each day. The preseason game will be another step in evaluatiing players, with a win or loss being inconsequential.

Frazier also took the opportunity to congratulate Cris Carter, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday. Frazier said he spoke with Carter on Sunday. "I just told him thank-you on behalf of our football for his support."

Frazier also had a moment of fun, noticing a T-shirt from Ditka's restaurant in Chicago. "I had some flashbacks of coach," he said, laughing.

Receiver Greg Jennings said the relationship between he and quarterback Christian Ponder continues to develop. He said that Ponder is a good guy off the field so that helps them get to know each other better. Jennings is looking forward to the preseason opener Friday to see if what the offense has accomplished in practice will carry over once the team is working against another opponent.

Special teams coordinator Mike Priefer said he was happy with the progress of holder Jeff Locke. During Saturday's practice, there was one snap that Locke bobbled but still got the ball down and Blair Walsh made the kick. "It was a good snap and shouldn't have been dropped, but he stayed with it. It was great the way he responded."
