A lot of media attention was paid Tuesday to Adrian Peterson, who practiced in pads for the first time at training camp, but it's clear that the Minnesota Vikings running back won't see much contact until he gets into a game, preseason or regular season.
He was all smiles at the post-practice news conference and said it was good to be back on the field, working out with his teammates. Peterson was activated from the physically-unable-to-perform list on Sunday, less than eight months after major surgery to repair two ligaments in his knee.
Coach Leslie Frazier said Sunday that Peterson would be off-limits to contact, meaning Peterson will participate in all the individual drills and offense-only sessions.
Peterson said he wouldn't mind getting into a preseason game to test his knee in game-like conditions.
Defensive lineman Everson Griffen did not participate in practice because of a sore knee. Frazier said that Griffen will only miss a day or two.
Wednesday is the final day of training camp, though the team will remain at Minnesota State until Thursday morning before busing to the Metrodome for a final workout before Friday's game against Buffalo.
