Getting feisty

The first real feistiness of training camp took place on Wednesday afternoon in the final practice before Friday's preseason game against the 49ers.

During 11-on-11 action, there was some pushing and shoving between wide receiver Percy Harvin and rookie safety Harrison Smith. It was broken up rather quickly, never turning into anything resembling a brawl.

After the practice, which was cut short by about 20 minutes, Smith downplayed the scuffle.

"I don't think it was me standing my ground," he said. "It's football. I was just being aggressive. It's an aggressive sport played by aggressive players. ...

"After awhile you get sick of competing against each other. You're supposed to support your teammates, but you want to hit someone."

Camp will be closed for the next three days. The next practice, a walk-through, is scheduled for 10:55 a.m. Sunday. The Vikings are also scheduled to practice at 2:45 p.m. that day.
